Over the past 8-10 years we have
dedicated lots of our time to working with children,
and young adults. During this work we have learnt that
young people love a challenge and that Capoeira provides
them with this challenge in a unique, and positive way.
Capoeira is played inside a circle
of friends clapping hands to rhythm of the traditional
percussion instruments that have been used since capoeira's
creation. Inside the circle of capoeira young people
learn to find their balance through the movements of
Capoeira and express themselves & their individuality
in new ways.
We also teach young people to respect the cultural system
of Capoeira -
- to take responsibility for themselves
and those that they play capoeira with
- the importance of responding
and contributing to the music and singing that take
place in the circle (roda)
- to work in co-operation with
the energy of those around them and not against.
We find that within Capoeira each
young person finds something different to identify with;
some players excel acrobatic movements, others find
enjoyment in learning to sing in Brasilian Portuguese,
others are attracted to the opportunity to train and
play with other children from their age group.
Capoeira is an ideal opportunity
for young people to develop their co-ordination &
confidence, along with their skills in acrobatics, percussion
& singing.
Over the years we has focussed on
giving young people a sense
of purpose and structure whist teaching them to play
Capoeira. We welcome parents to come along and watch,
or if they prefer join in the class and train with their
child, all training is non contact.
Amazonas Capoeira also has extensive
experience in working with schools, youth centres, and
other academic institutions. For further details please
